Chiropractic

Chiropractic care is the branch of medicine that deals with many of the physical causes of pain and health related problems.  Physical problems can cause the nervous system, the respiratory system, the digestive system, and the operation of muscles, tendons and joints not to function properly.  Often a physical cause of pain or a health problem is pressure from a part of the body that is not functioning properly impinging or crowding another part of the body.  This occurs in the spine when there is injury to the spine due to an accident or the gel in between the vertebrae of the spine loses some of its sponginess.  This is call “degeneration” of the disk.  Often arthritis, bursitis, and many joint pain related problems are caused by some part of the body pushing against another part of the body in a way that would not occur with a proper functioning of the body.

Chiropractic care is about getting the body to be properly aligned and for each part of the physical body to perform its function and not prevent another part of the body from performing properly.  Such treatment by a Chiropractor is often called an “adjustment.”

Some sleep related or allergy related problems may have their cause in the way  the physical body is performing, and thus can be relieved through chiropractic care.

Chiropractic care does not include pills, drugs, or surgery.  Some injuries and medical problems certainly require these types of treatments.  However, the philosophy of Chiropractic care is to be conservative and help the body do what it does best, which is repair itself when given the opportunity.  Often one muscle or joint can get in the way of another muscle or joint being able to repair itself and operate and function in a pain free manner.  In those situations, pills and drugs just mask the problem while Chiropractic care diagnoses and unmasks the problem and through an adjustment to the body through the hands of the skilled Chiropractors

Chiropractic care can often clear up problems and health challenges that people have had for a long time.  These problems are called chronic, meaning long lasting.  When any pain comes up, what we call acute pain, we urge everyone to see a Chiropractor or medical provider, since the quicker a person gets treatment for pain or any physical dysfunction, the better chance that person will have for a quicker, full recovery.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment for certain types of chronic back pain. Mechanical decompression works by slowly and gently stretching the spine, taking pressure off compressed discs and vertebrae. Spinal decompression is one of the most exciting medical treatments developed in many years, since it demonstrates good statistical results for long term pain relief.

Degenerative disc disease is also a common condition treated with decompression therapy. Loss of disc height can be exacerbated by spinal compression, causing the vertebral bodies to move closer together. This can cause nerve compressionand other forms of common back pain. Decompression eliminates the overwhelming pressure on degenerated discs reducing or eliminating painful symptoms.

Facet joint syndrome is yet another condition treated with spinal decompression. Conceptually, facet syndrome causes pain due to arthritic changes in the vertebral bones. Decompression helps to create more space between the vertebrae, hopefully reducing painful symptoms.

Acupuncture

The practice of Acupuncture is often called “Alternative Medicine.”  However, this type of medicine was established long before our “traditional medicine” that focuses on pills, drugs, and surgery.  Acupuncture is based on the identification of over 2,000 specific areas of the body where blood flow can be impeded, thus cutting off organs, tissue and muscles to the true life sources within our body, blood and oxygen. Through the use of thin, relatively painless insertions of needles at the right points, these needles help promote the proper flow of blood and oxygen giving the body its ability to heal itself.  Many pain related and movement restriction problems can be successfully treated by acupuncture, as well as digestive problems, breathing and respiratory problems, and fatigure.

Acupuncture.com defines acupuncture below:

The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy called Chi or Qi present in every living creature. This energy is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways that are called meridians. As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained, but once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness occur. Imagine rivers that flood and cause disasters or an electrical grid short-circuiting that causes blackouts. Acupuncture works to “re-program” and restore normal functions by stimulating certain points on the meridians in order to free up the Chi energy.

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles, (sometimes in conjunction with electrical stimulus), on the body's surface, in order to influence physiological functioning of the body.

As the basis of Acupuncture, Shen Nung theorized that the body had an energy force running throughout it. This energy force is known as Qi (roughly pronounced Chee). The Qi consists of all essential life activities which include the spiritual, emotional, mental and the physical aspects of life. A person's health is influenced by the flow of Qi in the body, in combination with the universal forces of Yin and Yang .

Yin and Yang are opposite forces, that when balanced, work together. Any upset in the balance will result in natural calamities, in nature; and disease in humans. Yin is signified by female attributes, passive, dark, cold, moist, that which moves medially, and deficient of Yang. Yang is signified by male attributes, light, active, warm, dry, that which moves laterally, and deficient of Yin. Nothing is completely Yin or Yang.
Another popular treatment method is Moxibustion, which is the treatment of diseases by applying heat to Acupuncture points. Acupuncture and Moxibustion are considered complimentary forms of treatment, and are commonly used together. Moxibustion is used for ailments such as bronchial asthma, bronchitis, certain types of paralysis, and arthritic disorders.
Cupping is another type of treatment. This is a method of stimulating Acupuncture points by applying suction through a metal, wood or glass jar, in which a partial vacuum has been created. This technique produces blood congestion at the site, and therefore stimulates it. Cupping is used for low backache, sprains, soft tissue injuries, and helping relieve fluid from the lungs in chronic bronchitis.

MedX Rehabilitation

Measuring and helping improve strength is a critical component in improving the overall health and physical capabilities of a person.  This equipment prints out precise readings of a person’s strength at several key areas of the body.  The equipment then becomes a weight training device that is safe and helps promote the elimination of weaknesses and the improvement of strength in a person’s body.  When one part of the body is weak, other stronger parts of the body compensate and put themselves under great stress that can cause pain.  Often, the pain of the stronger muscle or area of the body is treated and the source of the problem, the weak area of the body is left undiagnosed and untreated.  That is why many times pain recurs because we have not accurately diagnosed the source of the problem, just treated the symptoms.  At LifeSource Health Partners we made a significant investment in this equipment so we can give each patient a baseline recording of their strength and can guide them to becoming stronger over time.  The point is never to “bulk up” a patient, but rather to give the patient a solid, even based, strong body to help support them pain free in all of the daily activities, sports, recreation, and enjoyable activities life has to offer.

Arthur Jones is the legendary founder of Nautilus. In 1986, he founded MedX to perfect the testing of human strength, endurance and range of motion. After years of development and testing, validated by independent research teams at the University of Florida, MedX perfected its medical Lumbar Extension machine. It has since helped tens of thousands of people around the world reduce or eliminate their back pain.
