Arthritis is considered to be one of the most painful and crippling diseases prevalent in our society today. It is estimated that 36 million Americans suffer with some form of arthritis that results in pain, stiffness and loss of motion. Arthritis often causes difficulty or even an inability to perform many normal activities of daily living and work. Medications can provide some relief, but do little to actually improve strength or function and even worse, often have undesirable side effects. This workshop will review the 2 main types of arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid. We will also discuss the basic tissue changes that occur with each and review the neurological and physiological aspects of arthritis. Each participant will have the opportunity to complete a personal “stress and arthritis” survey to identify areas of health that are being affected. Participants will gain a better understanding of the causes of arthritis and will be offered a discussion of non-drug treatment solutions and long-term care management.
